Kyungbock High School won the 106th Korean National Sports Festival, earning the national title in 11 years and completing a triple crown season. The players’ hard work and dedication throughout the year made this victory possible.

In the final, Kyungbock faced Samil High School, the team that had made them lose in the finals of the last King of Kings Championship. In the Korean National Sports Festival final, the first quarter ended with Kyungbock behind 21-22, but the second quarter completely changed the game. Sam-il scored only 10 points, while Kyungbock scored 26. Yoon Ji-hoon scored 11 points in that quarter leading the game to come from behind. Kyungbock kept control for the rest of the game and won 100-64. Yoon Ji-won scored 35 points with 7 assists and was the key player in the win.

The season was full of challenges. Kyungbock lost in the semifinals of its first and second tournaments against Yongsan High School and Muryong High School. They won their first title of the year against Yongsan but then lost two finals in a row. Still, the team never gave up. From that point, Kyungbock showed stronger teamwork and focus, winning two straight tournaments, including the Korean National Sports Festival.

Reaching the Korean National Sports Festival was also difficult. Each team represents its region, and Kyungbock had to win the Seoul team selection contest. They defeated Yongsan 67-64 to become Seoul’s representative, then finally went on to take the national gold medal.

For seniors Lee Ji-ho, Lee Hak-hyun, and Jung Si-hu, this championship was a perfect ending to their high school careers. They proudly wore their gold medals with smiles after the final game. Center Eom Sung-min, who will be a junior next year, said, “I want to help my team, stay healthy, and finish next season with good results. I also hope to win individual awards in every tournament.”

By the completion of the Kyungbock Tower, now many basketball fans are watching how strong Kyungbock High will become next season.
