One of the most important pieces in KIA's rebound is set to return.

Kim Do-young (22), the 2024 KBO League MVP, is counting down to his comeback.

The KIA Tigers announced on the 21st, “Kim Do-young underwent an ultrasound examination at Sunhan Hospital and was cleared for full training,” adding, “He will begin technical training on the 22nd, play in a Futures League game against Samsung in Hampyeong on the 23rd, and follow up with live batting on the 24th. After that, he will be on standby for a first-team call-up.” His return is expected as early as the weekend home series against LG, starting on the 25th.

KIA entered the 2024 season as the clear favorite to dominate the league. However, they faced adversity right from the opening game. Kim suffered a left hamstring injury on March 22 during the season opener against NC, while returning to base after a hit. A thorough examination diagnosed him with a Grade 1 strain (partial tear). Although he underwent additional MRI scans on the 3rd and 14th of this month, his recovery was slower than expected, and KIA opted not to rush him back.

Kim's performance in 2024 made his MVP award a natural conclusion. That year, KIA also clinched their 12th Korean Series title in franchise history. His absence this season has visibly weakened KIA's offense. The team is averaging just 4.1 runs per game and has been struggling to score even a single run in some matches.

However, the recent atmosphere has shifted. Over the past seven games, KIA has posted a 5–2 record. Though currently ranked sixth overall (11 wins, 12 losses), they trail the second-place Hanwha Eagles by only two games. A return to a .500 winning percentage is within reach. With Kim Do-young’s comeback, KIA is poised to return to full strength.
