On March 21, 2025, NJZ, formerly known as NewJeans, faced a major obstacle in their independent new start. They had held a press conference on November 28, 2024, announcing their contract termination with ADOR. However, amid the ongoing legal dispute between ADOR and NewJeans, the court accepted ADOR’s injunction prohibiting NJZ (NewJeans)’s independent activities on March 21, 2025.
NewJeans debuted on July 22, 2022, under ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE, with Min Hee-jin as their creative director. NewJeans consists of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.
NewJeans made a sensational debut with a triple-title track "Attention," "Hype Boy," and "Cookie." According to HANTEO CHART, NewJeans’s first album “New Jeans” was sold 262,815 in a single day. Also, including the single album OMG, second EP Get Up, and the double single How Sweet, also achieved massive success. NewJeans’s first Japanese debut album Supernatural was sold over 1 million. It was ranked as NewJeans’s fifth million-seller.
The dispute traces back to September 11, 2024, when NewJeans held an Instagram Live session, demanding ADOR reinstate Min Hee-jin as CEO by September 25. The members expressed their opinions that they wanted ADOR provided that Min Hee-jin maintained control over both production and operations. However, NewJeans’s demand was not accepted, and on November 28, 2024, NewJeans held a press conference to announce their contract termination with ADOR. On February 7, 2025, the members rebranded as NJZ (NewJeans), starting their independent new start and announced plans to release their debut single on March 23. However, on March 21, 2025, accepted ADOR’s injunction prohibiting NJZ (NewJeans)’s independent activities.
NJZ (NewJeans) performed their new song “PIT STOP” at ComplexCon in Hong Kong on March 21 as planned and at the end of the performance, they officially announced their suspension of activities. In response to the court’s decision, NJZ (NewJeans) filed an objection against the injunction. The hearing for their appeal is scheduled on April 9. NJZ (NewJeans)’s fans and K-POP fans are paying attention to NJZ (NewJeans)’s future moves.
