NCT WISH, the last team of NCT, made a comeback on April 14 with their new song “poppop.” With this release, they broke their own first-week sales record.
NCT WISH had formed through the survival program “LASTART” on September 7, 2023, and officially debuted under SM Entertainment on February 21, 2024. NCT WISH originally had seven members, but now promotes as six because one member had health issues. The group consists of 6 members: SION, RIKU, YUSHI, JAEHEE, RYO, and SAKUYA. NCT WISH has been performing in both Korea and Japan, with two Korean members and four Japanese members since their debut.
Since their debut, NCT WISH has been gaining more popularity. They won “Asia The Best New Artist” at the Asia Star Entertainer Awards on April 10, 2024. Then, they received “K-World Dream Super Rookie” at the K-World Dream Awards on August 22, “Next Leader” at the Fact Music Awards on September 9, “IS Rising Star” at the Korea Grand Music Awards on November 16, and “Rookie of the Year – Album” at the Golden Disc Awards on January 5, 2025.
Their debut single “WISH”, second single album “Songbird”, and first mini album “Steady” were sold around 2 million copies in total. This is the highest album sales among all rookie artists who debuted in 2024.
Before, their highest first-week sales record was about 800,000 copies. But with the new album “poppop”, they sold 1.21 million copies in the first week, breaking their own record.
The new mini album “poppop” has six songs: the title track “poppop,” and “Melt Inside My Pocket,” “Design,” “1000,” “Silly Dance,” and “Still 3PM.” “poppop” is about the many emotions of first love how everything feels new, exciting, and sometimes awkward.
Fans are especially happy because this comeback is RIKU’s first activity after his temporary hiatus. Fans are also excited to see NCT WISH’s refreshing summer concept and are looking forward to their next moves.
