Jens Castrop (22, Borussia Mönchengladbach), born to a German father and a Korean mother, has joined the Korean national soccer team with a new face. Castrop is a player with strong fighting spirit and active activity as a midfielder, and Hong Myung-bo is expected to be a key resource in the "three-back" tactic he envisions ahead of the 2026 North American World Cup. Under the three-back system, the role of defensive midfielders is important, and Hong hopes Castrop will play a role in connecting offense and defense, as Kim Nam-il and others showed during the 2002 World Cup.

Castrop started his professional career in Nuremberg after serving as a representative of Düsseldorf youth team and German age group, and after gaining experience in Bundesliga 2, he signed a four-year contract with Mönchengladbach this year to enter the first division. Although he is currently communicating with his colleagues in English, he is quickly adapting by learning Korean, and an official of the national team evaluated that his active movement and ability to digest multi-position will be a great asset.
