GenG made a strong start to the 2025 LCK regular season by defeating two top teams, Hanwha Life Esports and T1, during the opening week.
In the season opener against Hanwha Life on April 2, GenG showed dominant performance across all lanes and secured a clean 2 to 0 victory. The first set ended with an overwhelming 24 to 2 kill score, and in the second set, mid laner Chovy, whose real name is Jeong Ji-hoon, made a perfect play with Azir to close out the game.
On April 6 against T1, GenG staged a comeback. After losing the first set to strong plays from Faker’s Ahri and Gumayusi’s Jhin, Ruler, Park Jae-hyuk, stepped up with Ezreal in the second set to tie the score. In the final set, Duro, Ju Min-gyu, made key hooks with Blitzcrank and Chovy’s Viktor led the team in the late game to secure a dramatic win after more than 50 minutes of intense gameplay.
GenG avenged its previous losses by beating both teams. Last year, the team lost to T1 in the semifinals of the World Championship and earlier this year, fell short to Hanwha Life in the LCK Cup finals. This time, GenG turned the tables in the opening week.
Individual records also stood out. Top laner Kiin, Kim Gi-in, became the first LCK top laner to achieve 400 set wins. Ruler, Park Jae-hyuk, celebrated his 600th LCK game with a victory.
