In Incheon, a shocking domestic shooting crime in South Korea over the weekend of July ended with a man dead, his father in custody, and a bomb squad observing dozens from a Seoul apartment building.
On Sunday night around 9:30 p.m., police in Incheon received an emergency call from the resident in the apartment that a man had shot his son. According to the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station, the victim, a man in his 30s, was immediately moved to the hospital, where he later died.
The suspect, identified only as a man in his 60s and confirmed to be the victim’s father, had already fled with the firearm he allegedly used. He was arrested early on July 12 in Seoul, about 30 km away, after a three-hour crime. During questioning, the police were told that he also placed an explosive bomb inside his home in Dobong, Seoul.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, 105 residents were evacuated from the apartment as the bomb squad searched the building. They found and safely removed a bomb with a timer and accelerants. The circumstances of the manufacture of the bomb and firearm will be investigated.
