Singer BoA and television personality (and former announcer) Jun Hyun-moo sparked controversy after going live on Instagram while appearing to be intoxicated on the night of April 5.
The unexpected live broadcast took place at Jun Hyun-moo’s home, where both were drinking together. Jun’s face appeared noticeably flushed, and he remarked, “Someone (presumably BoA) told me to try going live, so this is my first time doing it.” He added, “We're drinking some alcohol that I had been saving.”
During the stream, the two made blunt remarks about Jun’s home. They commented on how messy it was, with too many items piled up, a guest bathroom that smelled bad, and everything looking untidy except for his trophies. Their unusually candid comments surprised some viewers. BoA joked that if she were to appear on the variety show I Live Alone, where Jun is a regular cast member, she would like to borrow his house for a day and completely transform it.
BoA also raised eyebrows during the stream by leaning on Jun’s shoulder and touching his face, which led to speculation about their relationship. At one point, Jun read out a viewer’s question asking if he was dating comedienne Park Na-rae. BoA responded, “I don’t think so,” prompting Jun to ask, “Why do you think that? Because you think Park Na-rae is too good for me?” BoA then replied, “No, because you’re too good for her,” a comment that has been criticized as disrespectful toward Park Na-rae.
The live stream lasted for about 20 minutes before it was abruptly ended at the request of BoA’s manager. The two mentioned they were receiving repeated calls from the manager before ending the broadcast.
Clips of the live stream quickly circulated on online communities, leading to widespread backlash and questions such as, “That was rude to Park Na-rae. You should apologize,” and “What’s going on between BoA and Jun Hyun-moo? Are they dating?”
