Many people prefer to eat sugarfree jelly or drink diet drinks containing artificial sugar in order to lose weight. However, according to neurologists in the United States, these artificial sweeteners contribute to accelerating brain aging. A recent study published in the journal Neurologyfound that people who regularly consume sugar substitutes such as aspartame, sucralose, and erythritol showed the same cognitive decline that they experienced for nearly 1.6 years of brain aging.
The majority of people prefer to eat sugarfree jelly or artificially sweetened diet drinks for weight loss. However, according to neurologists in the US, these artificial sweeteners are said to accelerate brain aging. According to a recent study in the Neurology journal, those who eat sugar substitutes such as aspartame, sucralose, and erythritol daily reported similar cognitive decline they would have experienced for nearly 1.6 years of brain aging.
As specialists, artificial sweeteners have the capacity to disrupt memory and metabolic processes of the brain. In addition, they cautioned that although these foods are frequently marketed as being a healthy alternative to sugar, eating them over the long term could raise the risk for memory loss, attention loss, and other age-related cognitive changes.
