In 2025, South Korea is dealing with a significant increase in youth unemployment. Economic challenges and hiring freezes have made it increasingly difficult for young people to get stable jobs.
The main reasons for this rise include the economy and companies reducing their hiring efforts. Due to many businesses prefer experienced workers over new graduates, fewer opportunities were given for young job seekers. Additionally, there’s a mismatch between the skills employers seek and what young applicants can offer.
This unemployment trend affects not only individuals but also the society. Young adults face financial difficulties, delaying important priorities like marriage and housing. The nation also risks a talent drain, with many considering opportunities abroad.
The government has introduced programs like the “Youth Leap Account” to encourage savings among the youth. They’ve also expanded training for the profession through “Meister Schools,” aiming young people to assimilate practical skills for the job market.
While these strategies show that addressing youth unemployment requires a substantial effort. To create a stable future,a supportive environment for young workers should be fostered in South Korea.
