Severe Earthquake in Afganistan

The magnitude of 6 earthquake hit four major provinces in eastern Afganistan around midnight on Sunday, with the mountainous region Kunar the worst affected with landslides and flooding. The earthquake sparked about 27 km (17 miles) away from the major trade city of Jalalabad, fifth largest city in Afganistan, and around 140 km (87 miles) aways from the capital Kabul.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was shallow and close to the earth surface, caused extensive damage and destruction in cities and towns. More than 800 killed in Afganistan earthquake so far and rescue is ongoing, UN agency says. At least 2,000 people are estimated to be injured and at least 12,000 people are directly impacted by the earth quake from damaged buildings or residences via United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
A local resident has been describing the damage caused by earthquake in Mazar Dara. He pleads for helps for his families and other dwellers, saying that the majority of his village is destroyed. If the earthquake keeps happening, it is estimated to cause more casualties and damages.
