April 29, 2025 – Seoul, South Korea — In a move that has shocked the community, Russia and North Korea have officially confirmed the involvement of North Korean troops to Ukraine in support of Russian forces. This is the first time both countries have said that North Korean soldiers are taking part in the war.

According to international reports, approximately 14,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent. However, growing evidence suggests they are also participating in front-line operations, raising concerns in Seoul, South Korea and among NATO allies.

South Korea’s government is now reconsidering its military aid policy toward Ukraine. Until now, Seoul avoided sending actual aid, but the involvement of North Korean forces could change that stance. Some officials have called for the supply of weapons including ammunition to Ukraine.

Experts warn that North Korean troops may gain modern warfare experience, potentially strengthening Pyongyang’s military power.

As tensions rise in Korea, the South Korean government is carefully contemplating its options. This development adds another layer of complexity to the security dynamics in Northeast Asia.
