The 30th Busan International Film Festival will open on September 17, 2025, with the latest film of director Park Chan-wook "No other Choice." During the 10-day festival, a total of 328 films will be screened across Busan, including 241 official selections from 64 countries, with 90 world premieres.

This year there is a major shift with BIFF fully switching to a competitive platform with the new Busan Award for the best Asian film. The award includes Best Film, Best Director, Jury Prize, Best Performance, and Artistic Contribution. Fourteen Asian films have been shortlisted, which include Zhang Lu's "Gloaming in Luomu" and Bi Gan's "Resurrection".

At a press conference in Seoul, Executive Director Chung Han-seok described the guest lineup as "unprecedented." The guests include Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro, Italian auteur Marco Bellocchio, Cannes jury head Juliette Binoche, and Academy Award–winning director Sean Baker.

The Vision Section, previously reserved for Korean films, has been widened to showcase more Asian talent overall, divided into "Vision Korea" and "Vision Asia." The Gala Presentation lineup features standout titles such as Cannes Palme d'Or winner "It Was Just an Accident", del Toro's Netflix title "Frankenstein", and Byun Sung-hyun's "Good News".

Outdoor screenings at Open Cinema will offer diverse selections, including “Audition 109” starring Jung Woo, a live-action remake of Makoto Shinkai’s “5cm Per Second”, and Taiwanese actor Hsu Kuo-ching’s comeback film “Measure in Love.”

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, BIFF will also offer retrospectives, special programs led by Juliette Binoche and Marco Bellocchio, and tributes to legends of Asian cinema. The opening ceremony will be led by actor Lee Byung-hun, with the closing ceremony to be led by Claudia Kim.
