In August 2025, South Korea welcomed its 80th National Liberation Day. To remember South Korea’s independence activists and celebrate their freedom from Japanese colonial rule, citizens from every region commemorated its special and historical day, with events ranging from minor celebrations to a series of major gatherings in central Seoul.
The commemoration of the 80th National Liberation Day took place at the Sejong Center for Performing Arts. Around 2,500 citizens, including the descendants of the activists, senior government officials, and even President Lee Jae-myung, willingly participated in the event.
The celebration had its splendid opening ceremony with eighty national flags of South Korea that boosted the citizens’ patriotism. The Korean traditional music, “Arirang Rhapsody,” which blended orchestra and choral elements, also drew a huge stroke in synchronization. Moreover, the descendants of 80 independence activists joyfully joined the stage during the performance.
Every celebration that was held symbolized South Korea’s strength and recollected its significance of history. As the event gathered momentum among proud Korean citizens, Liberation Day will be remembered everlastingly from generation to generation.
