Pope Francis Has Passed: World Mourns

A tragic event has occurred. Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday, April 21st, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. He was known for being the first Latin American pontiff who ministered with charm and humility and helped poor people.
Many people are expressing their sorrow about that.
According to the Vatican, Francis died because of a stroke that put him in a coma and led his heart to fail.
The bells tolled in Catholic churches from his home country Argentina to the Philippines and across Rome as news spread into the world.
On Monday Morning, at 9:35 AM, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, announced the death of Pope Francis from the Casa Santa Morata with these words;
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the name of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishops of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church .”
Pope Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed when he was young chronic lung diseases were admitted to Gemelli Hospital on February 14, 2025, after suffering from a bout of bronchitis for several days.
Unfortunately, the Pope’s clinical conditions gradually got worse and his doctors contracted bilateral pneumonia on February 18.
He spent 38 days there, the longest hospital stay of his 12 years of papacy. The late Pope Francis returned to his Vatican residence to continue his recovery.
He made his last appearance on Easter Monday, a day before his death to bless thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square and he also met the U.S. Vice President JD Vanvce.
On April 26, a solemn funeral Mass was held in St. Peter’s Square, drawing approximately 200,000 mourners. Also, the funeral was attended by numerous international dignitaries, such as the U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Prince of William, etc, reflecting Pope Francis’s global impact.
