On October 21, 2025, North Korea fired several ballistic missiles toward the East Sea. The missiles flew about 350 kilometers before hitting the water. This was North Korea’s first missile launch in about five months and came just weeks before the APEC Summit to be held in South Korea.

The South Korea mentioned that it is closely monitored with United States, again provoking tension in the Korean Peninsula. Both countries shared information and increased their supervision against further threats from other nations. In addition, Japan confirmed that some missiles had landed outside its exclusive economic zone, evoking possible regional concerns regarding tsunami and earthquake.

Experts believe that North Korea caused such turbulence to gain political attention while reinforcing its dominance before the major international meetings. It is also interpreted as a possible warning to South Korea and the United States, showing its military strength.

After a profound consideration, the United Stares and South Korea concluded that the “test” is an absolute violation of UN resolutions. The South Korean government said it would maintain firm readiness or response to reduce tension on the Korean Peninsula.

This missile launch reminds the world that the peace in Northeast Asia remains unpredictable and somehow fragile. As global leaders gather for the APEC Summit, they will likely to discuss how to deal with North Korea’s unprecedented action and prevent further escalation in Asia.
