Lee Seung-woo of Jeonbuk Hyundai has finally won his first medal. Returning to the K League after a trip to Europe, Lee said, "I came to Jeonbuk to win the championship," showing his genuine excitement.
In a match against Suwon FC in round 33 of the Hana Bank K League 1 2025 held at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on Sunday, Lee Seung-woo played 71 minutes as the starting pitcher. Jeonbuk won the title early with a 2-0 win, and Lee experienced his first league win since his debut as a pro.
Originally from Barcelona Youth, Lee played for Elas Verona (Italy), Sintrawidan (Belgium), and Portimonense (Portugal). He made his K-League debut with Suwon FC in 2022, and transferred to Jeonbuk FC last summer. At that time, Jeonbuk was on the verge of being demoted, but managed to stay through the promotion and playoffs. That hard time was rewarded with this victory.
In an interview after the match, he said, "I chose Jeonbuk to win the championship. I felt today that the choice was not wrong." "The team atmosphere was really difficult last year, but this year everyone just watched the championship and ran. It was a result of uniting and uniting," he said, emphasizing teamwork.
As for the reason for the dance ceremony with my teammates after the game, he said, "I just came out because I was so happy. I had a hard time for a year," he said with a smile.
Lee Seung-woo's role has changed since Foye took the helm. Although his playing time has decreased and replacements have increased, he has accepted his manager's philosophy. "There were tough times, but I focused on my role because my team was undefeated in more than 20 games and the results were good. I think I won the championship thanks to everyone's sacrifice," he said.
As Lee is fluent in Spanish, he naturally communicates with Foye. "The coach is simple and clear. He clearly tells us what he wants. Enjoy tomorrow's game. Just smile as you are," he said yesterday.
He cited the match against Ulsan HD as his most memorable. "I played as a substitute against Ulsan at home, and the team won 3-1. Victory in a rivalry game is always special," he said.
"I want to play in Jeonbuk for a long time. Now I want to achieve more here than in Europe. My goal is to become the second Choi Soon," he said. "It is the dream of every player. I believe that if I do my best here, I will have a chance someday."
Jeonbuk has already clinched the league title, but the season is not over yet. It aims to win a double ( simultaneous league and cup title) at the Korea Cup finals to be held in December. "The league title and the double are completely different. I will focus until the end and make the perfect season," Lee said.
