Korea's first commercial water electrolysis-based hydrogen production facility is now built in Buan, North of Jeolla Province. It marked its completion with a ceremony in Sep 24, 2025. The facility is designed to produce hydrogen using renewable energy sources, offering a greener alternative to fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

This water electrolysis-based hydrogen production area is approximately 1,500 m², which is substantial. How this is different from other hydrogen production facilities is, this uses ocean water for earning hydrogen using wind power and solar power. While breaking down the natural ocean water with electricity, they do not emit greenhouse gases. Water electrolysis hydrogen production is an eco-friendly method that separates hydrogen and oxygen by electrolyzing water using electricity obtained from renewable energy.

The introduction of this new technology makes our environment better but also makes our region’s economy much more developed. The project stands as both a technological milestone and a symbol of the country’s long-term environmental commitment.
