This season, freshman center Shin Yu-beom, who played a leading role as Kyungbock High School’s ace, successfully wrapped up his first year in the high school basketball league. Since Maesan Elementary School, he has shown outstanding ability, and he continued to prove himself through middle school, eventually earning admission to Kyungbock High School. During his middle school years, he participated in the KBL Elite Camp and was awarded group MVP. Despite being only a freshman, he showed impressive skills throughout the season and also represented Korea as a member of the U-16 national basketball team.

How do you feel after finishing your first season in the high school league?

Yubeom: There were both good and disappointing parts in this season, but I’m happy that we were able to finish it well with the senior players.

Compared to middle school, what do you feel has changed the most?

Yubeom: I realized that the physicality and skill are very different compared to middle school. I also felt that I needed to practice harder to match the high school level.

You competed in the FIBA U16 ASIA CUP as a member of the U-16 national team. How did it feel to wear the national uniform?

Yubeom: It was such an honor to play with the national emblem on my chest and represent my country. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in myself because I couldn’t fully show what I had prepared, but I was satisfied that we achieved fifth place in Asia.

What kind of role do you want to play for your team moving forward?

Yubeom: I want to be a player who makes a big contribution to the team, someone who raises our energy level through defense and hustle plays, and also helps in scoring when the team needs it.

Lastly, what would you like to say to yourself?

Yubeom: The most important thing is to stay healthy and avoid injuries. I hope I can focus more on basketball and achieve the goals I’ve set for myself.
