A healthy gut microbiome affects our body in many ways. The most important role is digestion. The gut microbiome helps us to digest food by breaking down complex carbohydrates, fiber, and undigested food components into beneficial substances. If our gut microbiomes don't work, it would cause our body to bloat, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue , and even skin and mood issues.

What causes our gut microbiomes not to work? It can be caused by our lifestyle factors like poor diet, lack of exercise, and stress. Also, as people get older, their gut microbiome can become less connected to the immune system and digestive tract. Like this, the gut microbiome plays a critical role in our body.

This gut microbiome does far more than just help digest food. Research shows that it affects the immune system, metabolism, and even mental health. A healthy gut microbiome can protect our body from diseases like diabetes. But when it becomes unbalanced(dysbiosis) , it may increase the risk of infection, allergies, or inflammatory diseases.

Interestingly there is also growing evidence of the gut-brain connection. They said that there is a complex communication system between the gut and the brain, involving gut microbiome, hormones, and more. This connection influences both physical and mental health. So it means that gut imbalance potentially affects conditions like anxiety, depression.

In conclusion, the microbiome is not just a germs in the gut. But instead, it is an ecosystem in our gut that helps keep us healthy every day.
