On November 14, at Jamsil Students’ Gymnasium in Seoul, Daegu Korea Gas Corporation selected Samil High School’s Yang Woo-hyuk with the 6th pick of the first round in the 2025 KBL Draft.

Yang Woo-hyuk began developing his skills after graduating from Maesan Elementary School and entering Samil Middle School. In 2023, he was selected for the U-16 national youth team. His journey did not stop there, after enrolling in Samil High School, he eventually became the team captain in his senior year.

The year 2025 was a special one for both Samil High School and Yang Woo-hyuk. On August 13, Samil High School defeated Kyungbock High School to win the 2025 King of Kings Championship. Yang Woo-Hyuk played an outstanding role in this victory, scoring over 30 points each against strong teams Yongsan High School and Kyungbock High School, proving his strong presence on the court.

This year’s draft drew significant attention. Unlike most players who enter the draft shortly before graduating from college, Yang Woo-Hyuk participated as an “early draft” prospect, joining the draft even before finishing high school. His exciting playstyle has won over many fans, but at 178cm and 68kg, he was considered physically smaller compared to other draft candidates. Nevertheless, Yang Woo-Hyuk ultimately achieved what many consider extremely difficult, the “high school-to-pro miracle.”
