A train track between the Polish cities of Warsaw and Lublin was destroyed in an “unprecedented act of sabotage” over the weekend, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Monday, emphasizing that the railway is crucially important for delivering aid to Ukraine. The railway on the Warsaw-Lublin line, which connects the capital to the Ukrainian border, has followed a wave of sabotage and cyberattacks in Poland and other European countries since the war in Ukraine.
Four government ministers stated that it is highly probable that the incident was an act of sabotage, referring to an incident that occurred on the railway between Warsaw and Lublin. In addition, local police reported on Sunday that a train driver witnessed damage on the railway line, yet the administration did not immediately confirm that it was an act of sabotage.
Starting from this railway line, the government and defense minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said the military has started inspecting a 120 km (74.6 miles) track stretched out to the Ukrainian border. Furthermore, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said that vital evidence was collected from the site of an incident, which stimulated the quick identification.
This attack has happened during a campaign of sabotage in Poland and other European countries that has been attributed to the Russian security service. The interior minister, Marcin Kierwiński, posted on his social media that Poland is facing acts of sabotage in its most recent history.
