55th Autumn Korea Secondary School Basketball Federation Championship kicks off in Sangju

“The Shinhan SOL Bank 55th Autumn Korea Secondary School Basketball Federation Championship” started today, September 8, in Sangju. This year’s tournament has 82 teams in total. 30 in the boys’ middle school division, 16 in the girls’ middle school division, 27 in the boys’ high school division, and 9 in the girls’ high school division.

On the first day, 24 high school teams played in the preliminary round. The highlight match was between Kyungbock High School and Yongsan High School, two of the top teams in the country. Their game took place at Sangju Indoor Stadium. Since this competition does not affect senior players’ college entrance, most of the action came from first- and second-year players. It was a good chance to see the players who will lead their teams in the 2026 season.

Kyungbock High School’s starters were first-year guard/forward Park Jioh, first-year forward/center Eom Sungmin, second-year forward/center Song Younghoon, and the second-year twin guards/forwards Yoon Jiwon and Yoon Jihoon. The Yoon twins are already considered one of the most exciting young duos in Korean basketball. Eom Sungmin, who is over 2 meters tall, also stood out as a rare tall center.

Yongsan High School’s starting five were all second-year players: guard/forwards Kwak Geonwoo, Kim Mingi, Lee Seojun, Lee Seungjun, and Jo Kangin. Yongsan has had a strong year, winning the Spring Championship and also taking first place at the NBA Rising Stars Invitational in Singapore.

The game between the two schools was intense. Kyungbock led 27-20 after the first quarter, then stretched the lead to 52–38 at halftime and 69-50 after the third quarter. In the last quarter, Yongsan fought back and closed the gap to only four points, but Kyungbock held on to win 77-73.

For Kyungbock High School, which has often finished second in past tournaments, this win was an important step forward. The championship runs until September 18 in Sangju, and many basketball fans are watching closely.
