2025 Icon Match Draws 100,000 Fans as Football Legends Light Up Seoul
The 2025 Icon Match, featuring legendary football stars from the 2000s, drew 100,000 fans to Seoul World Cup Stadium on September 13–14.
Hosted by Nexon, the event brought together legends from its games FC Online and FC Mobile, dividing them into FC Spear and Shield United. New participants included Wayne Rooney, Ronaldinho, Steven Gerrard, and Gareth Bale, with Arsène Wenger and Rafael Benítez coaching the teams.
Despite knee issues, Park Ji-sung started for FC Spear. Rooney opened the scoring with a long-range shot, but Shield United came back with goals from Maicon and Park Joo-ho to win 2–1.
Over 38,000 fans attended the pre-match and 64,000 the main match, while online viewership peaked at 600,000 concurrent and 3.4 million total. Highlights included FC Online-style card-pack player introductions and a surprise appearance by legendary referee Pierluigi Collina.
Nexon pledged to continue expanding gaming experiences for football fans, promising more exciting collaborations between the virtual and real worlds.
